About Kanakanasamma Temple
The Kanakanasamma Temple (also known as Kanakanachamma) is a village shrine situated on the banks of the Palar River near Kuppam in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, close to the Andhra Pradesh–Tamil Nadu border. Dedicated to Goddess Kanakanasamma, who is revered as a protective and guardian deity, the temple is an important spiritual center for neighboring villages, with devotees seeking blessings for health, prosperity, and overall well-being. Although geographically located in Andhra Pradesh, the temple has historically been managed by the Tamil Nadu Endowments Department, making it a unique site of inter-state administrative interest. The temple is especially known for its annual “Adi Padinettu” jathara (festival), which draws devotees from both states and highlights its cultural and regional significance. Set against the scenic but seasonally dry landscape of the Palar river belt near the tri-state junction, the shrine remains a popular destination for daily worship, special poojas, and festival visits from communities across Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
