About Kangundi
Kangundi, located approximately 11–16 km from Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district, is a historically significant site known for the ruins of an 11th-century fort that was ruled by the Kangundi Zameendars for 28 generations from 1066 to 1950, governing nearly 360 surrounding villages. Positioned along the Kuppam–Vijalapuram route, the area features an ancient hilltop fort with nearby caves containing old cattle bones and horns, reflecting its long cultural and regional heritage. Kangundi is also home to a prominent hill temple that becomes a major spiritual center during the Shivratri festival. In recent years, the landscape—characterized by rugged granite formations—has gained recognition for adventure tourism, particularly for rock climbing and bouldering, highlighted by events such as the Kangundi Bouldering Festival. Frequently referenced in the context of the Kuppam mandal in Chittoor district, Kangundi today represents a blend of history, culture, and emerging outdoor adventure.
